Destruction of Leviathan-Gustave Dore
LEVIATHAN
[noun]
a sea monster referred to in the Bible. In Demonology, the Leviathan is one of the seven princes of Hell and its gatekeeper (see Hellmouth - the entrance to Hell envisaged as the gaping mouth of a huge monster). The word has become synonymous with any large sea monster or creature. In literature (e.g., Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick) it refers to great whales, and in Modern Hebrew, it simply means “whale.”
Behemoth & Leviathan.
“All the seas of the world, placed in one of the fish’s nostrils, would be like a mustard seed laid in the desert.”
